Jim Beyer - Conductor
Jim Beyer began his tenure with Beck’s Band in 2016 as a substitute, then playing B♭ cornet, E♭ cornet, and now is the conductor and an arranger for the group. He also is a performer/arranger with the Salem County Brass Society, and a with the Bethel Baptist Church music ministry. He is married to his wife Janice, also former music teacher, and currently a sign language interpreter. They reside in Turnersville, NJ.
Jim received his B.S. degree in Music Education from West Chester University, as well as supervision certifications and M.A. degrees in Music Education and in Educational Leadership from Rowan University. He became the band director at Washington Township High School, having been the high school band director for 30 years, including 18 years as the director or the Minutemen Marching Band, and then a middle school vice principal for 5 years. He was a
recipient of Teacher of the Year Award and the NJMEA Distinguished Educator Award. His concert ensembles have performed at numerous Regional and State Band Festivals and Galas. His marching bands have performed for the Philadelphia Phillies, 76’ers, Eagles, for the annual college football Kickoff Classic in East Rutherford, N.J., and the Tournament of Roses Parade in California. Outside of his school endeavors, Jim was a director and conductor of 8 tours of Europe with the American Music Abroad Honors Bands and Choirs. He was a Creative Assistant for Production with NFL Films, and has guest conducted numerous university and honors ensembles.
In their free time, Jim and his wife enjoy attending former students’ concerts and performances.
